Differences between Shared Hosting, VPS Hosting, and Dedicated Hosting
Picking the right hosting plan could be confusing and the bottom line remains you can’t have your site without a host, what plan is suitable for me?
Well the most popular options on web hosting plans are the Shared hosting, VPS and dedicated.
Here we will be looking into the difference between the plans that way our decision and choices will be easier.
We will be using the Housing sector analogy in the definitions and comparison.
This can be compared to leaving in an apartment complex (commonly known as Face me, I Face you in Nigeria). All residents are in the same building sharing most resources such as parking Lots, Kitchen, play ground e.t.c.
In shared hosting, all accounts must share the available resources with all other accounts on the server. These include CPU time, memory, and disk space. Visit our Hosting page for different shared hosting plans.
VPS which stands for Virtual Private Server can be likened to living in a Flat. While you still share things on the property, you are ultimately responsible for maintaining your own property and repairs. There is also significantly less residents per building and assigned parking.
On a Virtual Private Server, resources are allotted to you and are not shared by everyone. The over all CPU time and memory are shared across all accounts on the machine, but at the same time portions of those resources are always dedicated to each account.
This is you owing your house. You are allowed and have access to all resources available on the machine.
What plan is suitable for me?
Regardless of which type of hosting you choose, your website will reside on a web server. When someone visits your page, the server’s CPU and Memory will work together to send that visitor the page they requested. There are cases in which your website may use too much CPU or Memory to server those pages, and that is the time you will need to upgrade your account.
Be rest assured that an upgrade is very possible and we will assist in suggesting the most suitable upgrade for you.
